What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

The staff of Emerald are skilled in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques and participates in staff development and continued education. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science of using the research-validated principles and methodologies of Behaviorism to improve behavior and performance. ABA-based interventions have gained in popularity in the last 40 years for teaching students with special needs and abilities. Emerald uses Applied Behavior Analysis to teach academic, social, communication, daily living and life skills to students. Student behaviors are defined in observable and measurable terms, and analyzed within the environment they occur (e.g. classroom, playground, home) to determine what factors influence the behavior. ABA has been shown to positively impact the education of students with all varieties of special needs.
